It's so nice to find some fellow-admirers of Mr Morrissey! I first saw DM in Our Mutual Friend and never forgot Bradley Headstone (that is one haunting performance)... then just recently I saw him in Blackpool and Ripley Holden has stolen my heart Really I am meant to be completing a thesis right now *ahem* but watching DM is helping to keep me sane in the meantime. I might even rent Basic Instinct 2 for when my thesis is in and my brain needs a rest Looking forward to sharing the Morrissey love!

Hi and welcome Celia J! It's always fab to meet another Morrissey disciple ;D I'd agree with you heartily re his performance in Our Mutual Friend. I caught the proposal scene on Youtube and was so struck by it that I tracked down the DVD straight away. He is terribly (and kinda morbidly) compelling to watch as Mr. Headstone, I must say Glad to see you've been acquainted with Blackpool too...he's pretty damn brilliant in it (and playing against type to boot!). What are you writing a thesis about, if you don't mind me asking? I can kinda understand your pain there with the need to have a leisurely escape to maintain one's sanity, having done a psych thesis myself. LOL, I think BI2 is a pretty good carrot to reward yourself with, but whether you can rest your brain after viewing it...oooh, I dunno... kitty

Hello, nice to meet you too! Actually I think our paths may have crossed on YouTube, where I post as mrsjameshook (in tribute to another dark, blue-eyed, hirsute-chested gent). I think the active DM admirers must be a fairly select band as I recognise Romana on here from YouTube as well. I'm busy catching up on Mr Morrissey's back catalogue as I've realised there's lots of his work I haven't seen yet. I have State of Play and One Summer waiting on my shelf for when my studying is over, and it sounds as though Born Romantic is one for my list too. I'm also tempted by Hilary and Jackie, but I'm slightly torn: someone has posted a scene from it on YouTube in which Mr M is adorable - bounding around like an over-exuberant puppy - but as I have a friend who has MS I don't know whether it's a film I should really watch as it may be a little too close to the bone. As for BS2, I have to confess I had a little rummage on the internet and discovered some of the more, er, memorable moments (like the infamous hairpulling ). It's a pity Mr M had such a miserable time making the movie, but make it he did and well, as a completist, I suppose I'll just have to force myself to watch it My thesis is in art history - I'm researching an obscure late Victorian watercolourist. I'm enthusiastic about my subject but as I work full-time - and also in an art-related job - it can be hard to go home in the evenings and get motivated to study. The writing-up has been a painful process! Thinking of which, I should really be doing that now......

Hello, nice to meet you too! Actually I think our paths may have crossed on YouTube, where I post as mrsjameshook (in tribute to another dark, blue-eyed, hirsute-chested gent). Ah...so that's you! ;D And it's lovely to meet you as well! When I checked out that clip on Youtube last night I caught your name and thought it was familiar, but couldn't put my finger on why... Yep, it's a small cult, but then again, I like the exclusivity...kinda like the football team I barrack for I've gone through most of his 'recent' stuff and still feel the same way, so don't worry too much. His IMDB listing is, erm, pretty lengthy I don't think either Lilly or myself have seen One Summer, so we'd be keen to hear your thoughts there. As for State of Play, it's just a brilliant series that I'd watch any day of the week (like Blackpool), but the fact that he's in it is icing on the cake really. Aside from the fact that he plays against 'type', and it's not a bad rom-com (normally hate the genre with a passion myself), there's one particular scene involving him that, well, I'll let you see it to believe it ;D I guess it's only the last third of the film that focuses on Jackie's 'degeneration', and he doesn't feature much in that part, but could easily understand if you wanted to skip it rather than watch certain bits of it. That's cool...it's an oddly tempting film that way As for that infamous scene that you've referred to, yeah, my comments on that subject are elsewhere on here, but I'll let you find that out for yourself "Force" being the operative word But yes, I don't think he had the best introduction to the "Hollywood machine". I'm sure, though, that he'd call it a "valuable learning experience". Wow, that's awesome...and seems like a fair grind! I'm a social worker by trade, so am from quite a different background...but I've got a psychologist work colleague who does art therapy and has been working on her masters thesis around that, plus doing the client work. I don't for the life of me know how she does it all! I should technically be typing notes and admin at work, but my attention span tends to wane prior to lunch...funny that kitty

My admittedly-somewhat-belated wilkommen, Celia! Wow, all this and you brought pics too!! You, my dear, are made of naught but win. Yep, it's a small cult, but then again, I like the exclusivity...kinda like the football team I barrack for Yeah, I think what we may lack in numbers we make up for in sheer passionate volume...oh, wait, that's probably just me. *hangs head in despair while quietly snickering* Nope, me neither--oh, for a region-free DVD player!--but because of the wonderfully exhaustive screencaps at that one site (the link to which is listed in that thread), I feel like I've seen it. ALMOST. I just bought a copy of that in order to loan it to my sister, and told her, "You'll never look at Tabasco the same way again!" BTW, I've had that DVD for nearly a week and haven't rewatched it yet--look, Ma, someone's developed a modicum of self-control! (And certainly this has absolutely nothing to do with me refusing to watch anything other than The Mighty Boosh S3 instead.) *looks around shifty-eyed* For whatever it's worth, I have a weird neuromuscular disease and the first time I saw Hilary and Jackie, it did remind me rather viscerally of when I first got sick (though while my illness isn't curable, it thankfully is nowhere near as devastatingly progressive as MS). Quite honestly, though, the second time I watched it, I was so darned fulla intense Kiffer-Guh that I barely noticed. Because I am indeed JUST THAT SHALLOW. ;D Which in and of itself is a nice bit of spin-doctoring worthy of those Machiavellian types who litter the Hollyweird landscape.

I'm sold - I ordered it, and Hilary and Jackie as well. The lure of Tabasco mystery and Kiffer-Guh was just too strong to resist I love the Boosh too I went to see their live show last year, and it was a thrill seeing Julian and Noel up close'n'personal, especially in quite a small venue. They have such great comic chemistry. They were coasting on audience goodwill just a little (I'm not sure all the material would have made the cut for the TV show) but I was especially tickled by a little exchange where Howard was telling Vince about the dark, powerful, post-apocalyptic play he'd written: - This is bleaker than anything Mel Gibson could come up with! - Bleaker than 'What Women Want'? ;D

I love the Boosh too I went to see their live show last year, and it was a thrill seeing Julian and Noel up close'n'personal, especially in quite a small venue. They have such great comic chemistry. Excuse me. I now have to go expire in a gigantic fit of jealous despair. Nah, that's awesome you got to see them, actually. Apparently they've been in the US lately but it's not like I'll probably get any chance to see them...still, I've been following Boosh Storm USA at Twitter just to see what the boys have been up to. (As I tweeted da kitster, this made me laugh for an inappropriate amount of time.) My congratulations at having attained a kitty-like level of hilarity from the gigantic guffaw that erupted out of me! (Jeez, I miss living alone, though, cos self-centred cuss that I am, I then didn't have to explain to anyone what was so funny--just apologise to my poor little nervous keekat for scaring her.) Re: los Booshters, I must admit to my abject consternation at discovering how nowadays, being of a certain age *cough* apparently means that anything that incites my affections invariably gets processed through my 'nads--jeez, I didn't used to be this way! I used to be sane! D= (Well, okay...sane -ish.) But at least I was amused to note I seem to definitely be following a bit of a 'Next Doctor' paradigm here in that while I was initially distracted by the pretty one, it's the taller, goofy one who seems to have made a far more lasting impression. (Currently rewatching S1, I can't help thinking, "Ohhh, Howard, forget about Mrs. Gideon. Trust me, I've got a far more winning way with snake-handling than she does...") And in one of those instances of serendipity with which I'm frequently blessed, last week for some reason I decided I would check out Jimmy Fallon's show--despite the fact I haven't watched any sort of chat shows in months--and what to my wondering eyes should appear but Mr. Barratt and Mr. Fielding. (I sat straight up in bed and squeaked in squee-filled disbelief.)

Agreed! Sparkly shiny Noel tends to attract most of the fangirl love but Julian's subtler charms have their own appeal If you haven't seen it, I think you'd enjoy Matt Berry and Richard Ayoade's spoof rock opera AD/BC, which is full of familiar Boosh faces and has a particularly excellent turn from Mr Barratt. It's on YouTube - first part is here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nu-KK6FfjA

Sparkly shiny Noel tends to attract most of the fangirl love but Julian's subtler charms have their own appeal Aw, thanks so much for understanding--I'm afraid I may have slightly offended the poor kitster's delicate sensibilities with this development, since she doesn't happen to fancy either one of them. w00t! Looks awesome--it's actually playing without any difficulty for me, so I'm watching it now! *happydance*
