I know Here are a few more caps from that sequence, including some squinchy facing: ... and a few more.... In terms of the show itself, The Knock is a fairly generic Nineties ITV production: similar to a multitude of ensemble cop/hospital/firefighting dramas, but in this case focusing on HM Customs and Excise. Mr Morrissey plays Gerry, a Lahndon-with-a-slight-hint-of-Scouse (though the accent did settle down) customs officer who gets sucked into a web of bribery and corruption through being a) desperate for cash, and b) ever so slightly dim (or naïve at the very least). As it started I thought it was going to be pretty hard going, given some pretty clunky dialogue and variable acting from the rest of the cast, and it didn't help that Mr Morrissey wasn't given anything interesting to do for at least the first hour (in the absence of enough lines to help him create a character he seemed to have decided to substitute a smoker's cough – and given that Gerry is almost never seen without a cig in his hand, it’s hardly surprising he's full of phlegm); luckily though it got more absorbing as it went on, and Mr.M at least ended up with a storyline to get his teeth into and plenty of opportunity to display his talent for communicating inner conflict, guilt and angst. I also enjoyed the performance of Anthony Valentine as the sleazy crook who seduces Gerry from the straight and narrow (who knew tickets to watch Arsenal were so alluring?) So all in all (and I speak having only seen the first half), not the greatest project Mr.M has been involved in by any means, but well worth a watch

I know Here are a few more caps from that sequence, including some squinchy facing Man, I think we need a new subcategory in the squinchy face realm. There's angsty squinchy-face, and then there's...I don't quite know what to call it yet. I'd have to visualise said expression real carefully and think it over From the sounds of it, The Knock doesn't sound all that dissimilar to Framed, at least in terms of the basic plotline. Geez, that would've taken a fair effort in the way of method acting on DM's part, being joyous over getting Gunners tickets! kitty

Wow, thanks again for all these sizable pics Maybe I need to set up a photobucket account so my pics don't get shrunk down *sighs, pouts at the thought of re-linking existing shots via PB* Have got to stop staring at that lip...just got to stop The Agony and The Ecstasy, so to speak On initial consultation I was going to call it the "I'm comin' darlin'" squinchy-face, but I'm not sure. Still thinking about it Oh, well that's not so bad then. Did you get to seeing the second half, BTW? *totters off to do 1983 caps* kitty

Yeah, it exerts an almost hypnotic pull, doesn't it! Not yet - I've got my folks visiting this week, which means emerging from my unhealthily obsessive Morrisseyan bubble for the next few days

Not yet - I've got my folks visiting this week, which means emerging from my unhealthily obsessive Morrisseyan bubble for the next few days And now you know why I haven't been around; out of the many adjustments I've had to make to living with an elderly parent, the lack of time to myself is probably the hardest (because yes, I am just that damn selfish). However, Celia, these screencaps were worth the wait. As per usual, kitty has encapsulated my own reaction quite perfectly...and far more succinctly into the bargain, as is also her wont. Actually, they're 768 pixels wide (I just measured them) and yeah, 600 would be preferable as the maximum width, partly owing to issues of bandwidth and partly because this particular admin is incredibly anal retentive about ridiculous shite like the margins getting screwed up. Well, considering that he apparently does actually smoke, that might not have been a lot of acting there per se; I can't remember which interview it was, but I know it mentioned something about him puffing on a licorice roll-up (which was why I laughed so hard at that line in los Booshters' "The Chokes," when Montgomery Flange says, "Let's have a licorice rolly and bitch about the industry"). Because I also smoke--though given how the (IMO, ridiculous) clove cigarette ban just went into effect here in the U.S. this past week, I may not be amongst the ranks of the nicotine-addled for much longer--I know it's hypocritical for me to admit how distressed I was to learn that Mr. Morrissey smokes too; the difference here is that I don't rely on my voice as a crucial element of how I earn my living. Jeez, he's fookin' with his instrument, man! And they're his original teeth, too! C'mon, the guy's officially cornered the market on that; IMO, TPTB really should just sign it over to him at this point, shouldn't they?

Oh b****r, sorry about that They did look rather massive but I thought I'd put in 600 as the customised width I'll sort 'em out when I get a minute.

Don't worry about going back to fix them, hon--just try to keep 'em down to 600 width in future (and in terms of height there are no such limits, though I usually try to make most no more than 800 pixels high just so they fit on the average computer screen without necessitating scrolling--but in circumstances like that Telegraph cover, the bigger, the better, IMO). BTW, because he looks so young in these screencaps you were kind enough to grace us with, I started wondering when The Knock was made, and given that my first thought was, "Hmmm, I'd think somewhere between Framed and Finney..." I am frankly terrified to find out via IMDb exactly how accurate that bit of idle speculation was (1994, for those of you playing along at home).

Consider it done LOL, yeah - 'Who the f*** is John Simm?' Terrifying perhaps, but undeniably impressive

LOL, yeah - 'Who the f*** is John Simm?' The Cartoon Network is showing TMB here at the ungodly hour of 1 am on Sunday nights, but I've decided I can't watch the broadcast versions anymore because of the irksome way that they're edited (plus now that I have 2 of the 3 DVD's, there's no need, except that if I channel-flip past them, you know I have to stop...); that line was a great case in point, because the way that episode was shown here, the editing completely screwed up the joke...and of course they bleeped the obscenity, because even at 1 AM, the American public is evidently incapable of dealing with colourful language. (Don't even get me started on the FCC, or we will be here all day--though as per usual, my feelings there can be neatly summarised in icon form...) LOL, I'm glad you're impressed...though it does tend to make me wanna suggest you should get out a bit more often, my dear. I remain terrified, given that--as noted previously--less than a year ago I had to Google to ascertain who that "Next Doctor" guy was that all my Whogeeky friends were talking about. Can I claim in my defence that I'm a highly visual learner because of trying to over-compensate for mild audial dylexia? You're buying that as an excuse, right? RIGHT?!

Hi, this is Lilly's evil twin Hilly who takes over on autopilot at times of crisis.
Owing to the third and fourth pictures in the previous sequence, Lilly presently is a semi-conscious drooling pile of twitchy incomprehensibility on the floor and thus cannot respond to your post at this time.
We apologise for any inconvenience.

*peers all dreamy-eyed* Aside from 3 and 4 (which Lilly has already alluded to) I'm also quite fond of 6 and 11, particularly in light of capping 1983 and getting my head around how much Jobson really smokes, which is basically all the time Geez, I've really got to find out a way to get this series on DVD--pronto!! kitty
