Hello, newbie person from Australia here, de-lurking as a guest and joining up as a proper member Like a lot of other people I first noticed Mr Morrissey in ‘Blackpool’. To be honest I haven’t seen much of his other work (I know, bad bad bad!) but I recently watched him in ‘Five Days’, which I liked (apart from a certain episode ) and I watched his episode of New!Who (pretty much only because he was in it, I’m kind of… not really a fan of the new stuff ). I’ve also got ‘State of Play’ on DVD which I really must sit down and watch some day. So… yeah… nothing much else to say, I guess, except that it’s good that this forum exists and I figured it was about time I signed up since I’ve been doing the guest thing for a while now

Ahoy-hoy and welcome from across the border! It's fab seeing another Aussie on board *waves* Blackpool is certainly a common point of reference for a lot of folk on here with regard to their first experience of DM's talents, so there's no worries if you haven't seen a lot of his stuff--you've got a good starting point right there, along with The Next Doctor and Five Days Hopefully this forum will help guide you a little in scoping out other DM films/shows that might be of interest. I really enjoyed Five Days as well, but have had to refrain from posting a proper review on it in fear of spoilering folk about what you alluded to As for State of Play, I'd highly recommend you watch it when you can--it's a fantastic series (nothwithstanding the fact that he's in it, of course ) But again, welcome, and thanks for joining up. I hope you enjoy your time here kitty P.S. - If not for a certain Scottish gentleman who co-starred with Mr. M. in Blackpool, I would never have bothered with New!Who either (well, I was never into DW to begin with, really ). Thankfully this isn't a Whovian forum ;D

Hi, thanks for the welcome ;D *waves back* Yeah I'm hoping I'll become inspired to check out more of Mr M's work through reviews and other things I read on here; what I’ve read so far is quite interesting. I noticed there wasn’t much in the ‘Five Days’ thread so I’ll refrain from commenting further about it as well I’ll definitely have a look at ‘State of Play’ soon, and not just for the Morrissey element (the main reason I bought it was because of John Simm being in it, finding out that Mr M was in it as well was a bonus ) Thanks again, I’m sure I’ll enjoy my time here. I’ve already had a good look through all the picture threads anyway

Sorry I wasn't able to get back to you earlier. My birthday kinda got in the way ;D Hi, thanks for the welcome ;D *waves back* No probs! I'm glad you're deriving some insights (at least I hope that's what you mean by interesting here). I hope we're doing a decent job of balancing GUH with, erm, proper discussion. Yeah...I'll get to it eventually. Ah, another Simm fan Between New Who and State of Play, I'm finding he's a bit of a slash king On that subject, have you've seen The Devil's Whore? Lord, I wanted to give his poor character a hug on more than a few occasions throughout... LOL! Visuals are always a good place to start kitty

Ooh quotage ;D Sorry I wasn't able to get back to you earlier. My birthday kinda got in the way ;D Ooo Happy Birthday! ;D Hope it was a good one Haha yes, that's pretty much what I mean. But there does seem to be a good balance of "guh" and proper discussion so it's all good Ooh no I haven't seen that actually, I suppose I should check it out some day. There just doesn't seem to be enough time (or enough d/ls or money ) for things like that sometimes LOL at the slash king comment ;D Yes, yes they are I was tempted to buy Basic Instinct 2 on DVD (if I could find it cheap enough) just to get screencaps of the lovely Mr M, but I'm not sure if I could stomach sitting through the film itself He looks so damn good though, from the pics I've seen

Yeah, it's a good way of replying when you're feeling lazy ;D Ta, it was Phew! Thank goodness. We strive to avoid emulating David Tennant fandoms here Awwww, that's a bummer. My list of 'must-see' films never ever seems to get smaller, so it's always a matter of getting around to something eventually But I know both TDW and The Lakes are out on DVD here, having seen them at a local cult DVD store, if you wish to avoid the risks of downloading. Tend to get stuff through libraries as well to save money. That's cos I'm a nerd though Of course, I'm not wanting to detract from the subject of this forum, who--if Simm is a slash king--is a slash god. And Tennant's a slash queen, because out of the three, he scrubs up best as a woman And at this point, I'll stop now on the deep and heady subject of slash LOL, so have I, but I'm surprised that I can't ever seem to catch BI2 on sale. Warming up to this film with other DM projects first isn't necessarily a bad idea, because it truly is sheer, unadulterated visual porn (as you would no doubt be already aware with the caps) when you can stomach it. I'm still amazed I've been able to sit through the thing a few times! kitty

Yeah, it's a good way of replying when you're feeling lazy ;D It is indeed ;D That's good to know I've got both series of The Lakes on DVD and watched them in full so that's no biggie (I also don't have too much of a problem with downloading things, since that's how I see a lot of awesome shows I'd otherwise never get to see I'm just wary of my ISP download limit ) But yes, saving money is good Tis ok, nerds are cool The disturbing thing is that yes, DT does scrub up pretty well as a woman Although I haven't seen JS or DM in drag so I can't really compare You don't need to stop on my account LOL! Thing is though I've never seen the original film so... would I need to sit through that first? I guess I might buy BI2 on impulse one day if I see it in the cheapy bins at JB Hi-Fi though Even if I just use it for screencapping and never actually watch it, hahaha

This is what happens when watching The Footy Show, two replies in one night That's good to know Inasmuch as I adore the guy completely, his fandoms are mostly Which is why I'm glad he doesn't frequent the interwebs (at least as far as I'm aware) Cool bananas *thumbs up* Ah. Oh yeah, can definitely relate to that one! Am currently fooling the ABC website into thinking I come from the U.S. so I can keep up with FlashForward because Channel 7 are idiots Not that these are nearly the same level as Davina, but both definitely feature pink... JS - End of Time, perhaps? DM - Fanny and Elvis LOL, there's enough on here from me about the subject as it stands ;D But seeing that I haven't posted it here anywhere, you may enjoy this wee tale Thankfully the two films aren't linked (aside from Sharon Stone's character appearing in both of them), so it's not mandatory viewing. But I would recommend it, if only to serve as a comparison point. But that's where I look, and it never seems to find its way there, dammit! I'd have thought capping the thing would be worse than watching it, speaking from personal experience kitty

Ahoy-hoy yourself Illyria, and welcome! How nice to check in and find another member I don't have much to add just now, except to say re BI2 that yes, it's pretty dreadful (I say this in spite of spending several hundred words deconstructing it on this forum ) and yet strangely watchable If you find yourself tempted it's often available for a bargain price on Amazon and Amazon Marketplace. When I was considering it I asked a friend who frequents car boot sales to keep an eye out for me and she duly found a copy for about 50p, but by then I'd surrendered to temptation and picked it up off the internet. Three quid well spent Incidentally, this whole topic has reminded me of an exchange at the Liverpool DWAM Q&A (the film of which sadly never appeared on the web as promised ): Waggish interviewer [introducing]: ..and then David went to Hollywood, where he tried his hand at comedy - in Basic Instinct 2. Mr M [laughs]: Both hands! ;D

This is what happens when watching The Footy Show, two replies in one night Hah! ;D I know, it can be quite nuts at times I'm on numerous Live Journal Communities and see a lot of the, er... "squeeing" (is that putting it kindly? ). Although I guess I can't really talk, I get a bit like that with other actors I like ;D LOL! Channel 10 are worse... ;D (which is why I don't bother watching Supernatural on that station anymore - I'm waaaaay ahead with episodes, teehee ) I haven't seen either of those Although I have seen pics here and there... but yeah, definitely not the same level as Davina Ooh ;D I'll have to check that out when I get more time Aah ok. I think my mum might have seen the original yeeeears ago when it first came out actually, but anyways... Ooh? LOL! Oh well, at least when capping you can skip through parts I might have a look around this weekend to see if I can find it anywhere, hehehe Out of curiosity, of course

Ahoy-hoy yourself Illyria, and welcome! How nice to check in and find another member Hiya! ;D Thanks for the welcome Yes, I thought I'd de-lurk and actually sign up This place is a bit quiet it seems. Oooh ok, yeah these things are usually quite cheap on Amazon, which is always good. Much better than paying the crazy amounts things cost in Australia most of the time

Incidentally, this whole topic has reminded me of an exchange at the Liverpool DWAM Q&A (the film of which sadly never appeared on the web as promised ): Yeah, I was really looking forward to seeing that after watching DWAM on iplayer a while ago...and then couldn't find it LMAO, yep! Won't go into what he was doing with those hands though, cos that's been done Yeah, El Presidente of the footy club I go for happens to host it, so I have to oblige sometimes Oh, so do I! *pets Ten figure on bedside table* But there's squeeing, and then there's endless harping on that doesn't seem to extend beyond GUH, New-Whovian teenyboppers freaking out about DT being evil in Secret Smile and projecting their cheesy sexual fantasies through Rose/Ten fic Somewhere in that drivel there is a pretty damn fine actor whose talents are worth chatting about, but I find very few people willing to go there in any depth. And that's sad, you know. That's probably the reason I never got into Supernatural, despite the fact that Jensen Ackles is in it (fell in love with him in Days of Our Lives of all things ) But there's also MadMen, The Wire, Dexter etc., and I've just decided to give up and wait for the DVDs to come out so I can watch them in my own time. Although I can't get Fanny and Elvis, you must be the only Simm fan on the planet who hasn't seen DW's End of Time (watching DT die twice...the best way to celebrate Christmas and New Year )! If so, you're really missing out Mercifully it's not long, about a five minute read. But a great read LOL, I saw it on TV once when I was a teen, such were my weird tastes in film at the time Good point. BI2 doesn't have much in the way of long talkie bits, thankfully kitty

Arriving somewhat belatedly to this party (as is regrettably my wont)--welcome, Illyria! (Hmmm, so does that mean we also get to call you The Artist Formerly Known As Fred?) I'm especially honoured that one of our habitual lurkers has been somehow enticed into de-cloaking. *casts meaningful look toward certain parties in the eastern U.S., Russia and the U.K.* And yay you for doing so! Along with yay us for getting to make your acquaintance as a result! No need to apologise--it's certainly not any sort of requirement herein to have seen many of his other film and tv roles, and especially given what a prolific little bugger he's been for the past almost-three-decades, I think half the fun is discovering another one of his projects that's new to you...and then of course telling us what you think of it. Plus as noted previously, there's a helluva lot of it I know I'll never get to see because it's never been released on DVD in the first place...and never will be on region 1. (And of course speaking of regional restrictions, that's the precise reason I myself have only seen little bits of Blackpool on YouTube--despite kitty's generous attempt to rectify this matter.) I've already been spoilered, after having read some reviews, but I don't especially mind as such--similar to how celia and I were both spoilered about the denouement of State of Play (she minded, I didn't--again, if anything, it just gave me an even greater appreciation for Mr. Morrissey's performance, really). Nonetheless, we'll try not to spoiler anything for you, of course. Thanks--it means a lot to me that you said that. I do worry that our silliness--okay, well, mine specifically--does tend to overshadow the more substantive discussions, though of course, this board would not exist without the utterly unmanageable levels of squee that the forum's subject tends to elicit in the first place, so... *shrug* I just got it for a whopping $3.50 USD through an Amazon retailer, and although this DVD is the unrated version with ten deleted scenes, it unfortunately does not contain the two extra scenes that kitty--with her usual mad skilz--was able to find online (and about which there has been much justifiable hormonal kerfufflement). As I noted to celia, for that price it was worth taking the risk, though someday I really need to actually watch the entire movie again, rather than just skipping ahead to the sex scenes. I would recommend simply unplugging your critical faculties when watching it--just sit back and enjoy Teh Pretteh, for lo, there is much of it about, since Mr. Morrissey is in just about every scene except for the opening minutes of the movie. (Though for purposes of schadenfreude, you can also occupy your time wondering how on earth an actress as unquestionably talented and stunning as Sharon Stone somehow manages to come across as so remarkably unappealing in this film.) Oh, and for the record, I've never seen the original Basic instinct and probably never will, as I've realised there's no point in trying to watch it when I would just spend the entire time comparing Michael Douglas unfavourably with Mr. Morrissey. (Biased? Moi? Oh, just slightly.) In any case--again, wilkommen! I'm incredibly chuffed you decided to stop lurking and post--as noted before, the lifeblood of forums is interaction, after all, so it's it's ten kinds of awesome to have you in on the conversation here! Moar anon...I had yet more dental work done today so I'm about to go fall into bed in an extended opiate haze. (I mention this only so I can later blame anything I said in this post on the Vicodin.)

Yeah, El Presidente of the footy club I go for happens to host it, so I have to oblige sometimes Wait, which version of the Footy Show are we talking about? AFL or the Rugby one? *confused* Yeah that’s so true. DT is a good actor, although to be honest I actually didn’t like his portrayal of the Doctor *dodges bullets* LOL! (He was, however, awesome in ‘Secret Smile’, and Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire ) Jensen Ackles *guh* ;D I didn’t get into SPN til season 2 actually but it’s sort of filled the void that was left after Buffy was cancelled I’m too impatient to wait for DVDs though Hahahaha… that would be because I’m not really much of a Dr Who fan Although I did see bits and pieces of the other episodes Simm was in. Oooh LOL! Ah well, weird is good – it’s more interesting Ooh that’s good then… (Ooh look, quoting two different posts in the one… post… erm… ;D ) Arriving somewhat belatedly to this party (as is regrettably my wont)--welcome, Illyria! (Hmmm, so does that mean we also get to call you The Artist Formerly Known As Fred?) Hah it does indeed! And hello! ;D ;D Yeah I figured it was about time I actually started “lurking” here when the board was first created (well, a link was posted on a Live Journal community a year or so ago and I decided to have a bit of a looksee ). I should have signed up back then but hey, better late than never eh? Couldn’t agree more ;D I always like checking out the various roles my favourite actors have been in and it’s nice to have people to discuss them with Aah yeah, it’s a shame that not everything is readily available to everyone, although the internet has helped to rectify that a lot over the years. And I guess it also helps to have a multi-regional DVD player Eeep! I’m weird with my spoilers really. Sometimes I don’t mind and I actually go out of my way to find them, but in other cases I avoid them like the plague But thanks for that, I’m still yet to watch State of Play – although with all this talk about it I’m feeling more and more inspired to just sit down and watch it in full The squee-age doesn’t really bother me to be honest, it makes me feel better about all the squeeing I do myself But it is good to be able to have proper conversations as well. Ooh lord (I actually went to a DVD store this evening and tried looking for it to see if it would be at a decent price, but they only had the first one ) If I get desperate I might end up just getting it from Amazon, but I think I’ll survive for now Ooh he’s in pretty much every scene? That’s good to know And I suppose a small bonus is David Thewlis being in it as well (Lupin! ;D ) But yeah, I’ve never really been much of a Sharon Stone fan… actually I don’t think I’ve seen many (if any) of her movies at all Of course Aw thanks! ;D It’s good to be here I just hope I can match the standards of all the other conversations I’ve been reading Ooooh Hope you’re feeling ok! And thanks again for the welcomes, it’s nice to know that the members here are so friendly
