At the PBS character page, there's a fairly comprehensive overview of this episode's impressive cast. (Nice to see Eileen Atkins gets to look a bit more glam in this than she did in Cranford.) Mind you, it was impossible not to notice we had yet another installment in the ongoing Immense Melancholy of Utmost Cookie Deprivation series. (Yes, someday I will stop futzing around with brightness and saturation levels...but once again, today is just not that day.) Related to the above, this Cute Overload submission made me sporfle unduly.

Aaw, no cookies for DM But woot! I can't wait for this, 'Murder on the Orient Express' is my favourite Agatha Christie story I just hope they won't deviate from the original plot too much though, as the Miss Marple TV episodes have a massive habit of doing >_> (I tend to watch those more than the Poirot ones, which is odd since I actually preferred the Poirot stories in novel form, heh!)

Okay guys, I don't know if this link will work for those of you overseas, but from July 12 through July 25, Murder on the Orient Express can be viewed online at the PBS website. There's also this interview with the cast and other behind-the-scenes videos I haven't had time to check out yet. For those of you who can't watch the programme, I will try to come up with some screencaps tout de suite...but in the meanwhile, here's a cast photo, anyway. Consider my previous comments re: the innate dishiness of Mr. M. in period costume hereby invoked.

Alas, celia has informed me that the link does not work for folks outside the U.S. (though I'm hoping that at least it will be enjoyed by anyone who's a dab hand with proxies like kitty, or at least some of my fellow Yanks like our quiet frequent visitor from Kentucky). *waves a friendly hullo again* Furthermore, the quality of the video playback is so poor that thus far, all the screencaps have ended up looking like Mr. Morrissey's Last Known Photo, so I may well have to end up waiting for the DVD release at the end of this month instead. Many apologies.

Nope, it looks like a Christmas release in the U.K. which celia has informed me is the tradition. Here are the screencaps I've come up with thus far, but as previously noted, if visual acuity is what you're after, you won't find it here...but on the other hand, if you're a fan of Monet and the like, you might enjoy the Impressionistic quality of these pictures if naught else. I really wish I could have gotten the smile here, as it may be the only time we see Colonel Arbuthnot smile in the entire programme, but alas... The reason for the double-exposure effect here is that we are seeing from Poirot's perspective, which is through several windows away. I'm srsly getting a bit of a Harry Langdon vibe here, which is probably just proof of the baby face's recrudescence. More to follow, unless I give up and decide to wait for the DVD release.

Miss Lilly, thanks so much for posting these screen caps. Cannot believe we got to see this first. Well, as previously noted, it's about damned time we got to see something first before the Brits for a change! Especially given how many of Mr. Morrissey's projects were only ever shown in the U.K. and have yet to make it to DVD, I'd say we were karmically owed one. (Don't mind me, though--I'll just be over here in the corner, quietly seething with my colonial entitlement issues.) Hee--how did I know that one might go over particularly well with the Queen of Hand Porn? It's one of my, "happy accident" icons, because I honestly didn't have to do much with the original picture--just some cropping and a few effects, and presto--instant classic. (Though as previously noted, when you're dealing with this kind of source material, the results are pretty much guaranteed to be aesthetically outstanding anyway.) The original, btw, is kitty's winningly titled, "Mr. Pensive" from Sense and Sensibility, of course.

I finally got around to watching this. It was ok, but not as good as the Albert Finney film-version (I'm just too used to that I suppose, and I got a bit lost watching this version at times for some reason). DM was good but not in it enough for my liking It's made me want to re-read the book and re-watch the Albert Finney version for comparison.
