Thought this deserves its own topic rather than just being bundled in with Blackpool

Was never keen on this as a follow-up to the wonder that is Blackpool, but i do love the naughty caravan scene...lots of David chest

I completely agree with you RmR! The charme of the original is missing and Ripleys love interest is a pain in the ****. Sarah Parish in Blackpool was just adorable and the interacting with DT is definitely missing in it!

Yep, the DT/DM/SP love triangle was the highlight of Blackpool for me, without it i agree much of the magic was missing

Why did Ripley marry that woman after she'd messed him around so much? Hmm, I'll never understand that

Like Blackpool, I've only seen a few things on YouTube, but one thing that really struck me is the fact that it takes an amazing amount of cojones to sing and dance on film when that is by no means your greatest talent. That requires a particular sort of bravery that I think the average individual does not possess...as does willingly seeking a career in which so much public scrutiny is involved, for that matter. Regardless of what a poor followup this may have been, I still can't wait to see it, of course.

I got Viva Blackpool and Blackpool together as a special Amazon deal. Viva Blackpool left me feeling sad. I saw it a while ago. It getting rather quiet now so I thought I'd get some discussion going with a review! It looked as if they didn't have a big budget for this one. The emotional core was missing. It wasn't suprising that the deepest scenes I felt were between Ripley and his daughter. The "love story" came across as mostly about sex. Ripley seemed neutered. I liked the actress who played the policewoman though! She had prescence, and the musical numbers came alive when she in them. I was hoping that she and Ripley would get together at the end. I can see them in a weird sadomasochistic relationship, complete with whips and chains! ;D

I have only ever seen Viva Blackpool once. And that was when it first aired. There was something about it that has made me not want to watch it again. I do have it on DVD - because i too have the boxset - but although i have watched Blackpool countless times, i've never, ever, revisited Viva Blackpool
