A friend recently mentioned to me that Mr. Morrissey will be appearing at Collectormania Midlands and apart from the fact that a) I'm in the U.S. b) I tend to give such gatherings a very wide berth indeed, because quite frankly, that many geeks in one place gives me hives at the very thought there's also c) My cast-iron conviction that in this particular scenario I would be capable of little more than a glazed, moronic stare and the complete inability to utter any words except, "DO ME." And I'm sure the poor guy gets enough of that already, ya know?

Yes I met David in Feb 2010 at the showing of Don't Worry Aout Me in Derby. It was part of the Bafta tour. The whole evening was extremely interesting. First a introduction session to writers, actors, producers, directors infact anyone interested in the industry, David along with Vicki and Helen Elizabeth gave an insight into how they started out on their acting careers and the up and down sides they had come across. Then we went to the Directors Box to see the film along with loads of other people. David again did a talk before and after finishing with a Q&A time. He was very good and took time too answer individual questions that the young people put after this session on a one to one basis. I wasnt going to bother him as he was busy but I met a lovely lady in the Loos who said "Oh you really should speak to him you have come sooo far " and on exiting the loo she encouraged me forward to where he was speaking to people, after I loaned my pen to some other fans I asked if while he still had it he could sign my tickets which he kindly did. I thanked him for his twitter messages and invites to the evening and feeling myself very self conscieous and knowing I wouldnt get home till 2am (as it was and it was snowing where I was heading) I reluctantly left the Quad and made my happy way home. I can assure you David is a really nice bloke, interesting and extremely proffessional and if you ever get a chance to meet/speak to him you should make the effort. He sometimes sends updates via twitter under the name davemorrissey64 about his work projects, charities and interests. Join twitter and tweet him...you may even get a reply ! Bye for now Carole Ann.

I've been trying to get celia to say hi when she's gone to several of these Q & A's, but nuthin doin--she's a shy one, our celia. (I am too, actually, but once I realized that my shyness was perceived as arrogance, I've been trying to over-compensate for it ever since.) In a way, though, I understand, because I really wouldn't want to bother Mr. M. either--okay, well, I mean, I'd love to bother him, but not in this particular way--and I've always felt the best way I can convey my respect and esteem in these types of situations is to give the famosos one less person to deal with, you know? But at the same time, when someone deliberately cultivates celebrity, there's a certain presumption of wanting attention, too, so I can see both sides of the issue. Re: Twitter, it's really neat to have an insight into what he's been doing and what he's interested in, isn't it? I've been lucky enough to receive several responses to my tweets, but honestly, I was more jazzed the times when he tweeted celia and kitty. Nuthin like acknowledging my homegirls to make my day, yo.
