How do we keep this place going?

I know i wandered off for the best part of 18 months but now i have returned it does make me sad to see things relatively inactive. How can we keep things fresh and interesting, and maybe entice new people?

Well, there's always the "shameless promoting" thing I guess... And sending out a mass email to get old members back again, but only someone with Admin access can do that I was going to suggest a bit of a board revamp as well, but again only someone with Admin access would be able to do that. I could help with some design aspects though, or help to create some new skins for people to choose from.

As a Global Mod, what sort of Admin access do you have? Because I know that some/many Admins can be choosey about the powers they give their other Mods... (hell, I'm an Admin elsewhere myself and I do the same thing, heh )

Offer to give away free alcohol and stage belly dancing contests? ;D Seriously, how about pimping this board at the imdb forum, and having some very large and luscious DM pics on the home page? I think the best thing is to keep talking about this great actor. DM's performances are what will "entice" people to seek out this forum. I speak from personal experience!

Indeed Marianne - IMDB plugging could be a grand idea. Anywhere else you think it might be worth plugging? Is there a DM Livejournal does anyone know?

Illyria - i'll 'fess up now and say i have absolutely NO idea what powers i have as a global mod I was made one because when this place came into existence i was the admin of a Life On Mars messageboard and obviously i appeared somewhat responsible and intelligent. Since then i've proved to be neither Do i have the power to make you a mod and then you can play with skins and things or is that not possible? I really am quite useless. Any suggestions must be in words of one syllable

RE: the mod powers... Unfortunately only the main Admin of a board has the ability to make other people Mods, so unless that person comes back, no one else can do anything (not even Lilly)

If you look at the area where it has all the links like "help", "search", "members", "profile" etc... it'll also say "admin" for you, or at least it should - click on that and it'll take you to the Admin Panel and you'll be able to see what sorts of powers you have.

Without having any Mod powers myself I can only come up with codes and images to use for Skins, but I have a test board I can play around with so I can at least see what they look like before giving the codes to you if you have those sorts of Admin powers.

Lilly's not well at the moment so that's why she hasn't been around. I'm not sure when she'll be well enough to come online again but hopefully it'll be soon

As long as we keep posting here the forum should be ok But without an Admin being here on a more regular basis it's difficult to make changes to things

Sorry, I've had some really crappy health problems and thus haven't been around; I sincerely hope that such difficulties are behind me, but I'm also aware that even with perfect health, my time management skills could still use a lot of work, too.

Alarmingly enough, I actually was asked to become a co-maintainer of the LiveJournal comm (and against my better judgment, accepted); though it's also quite quiet, I've just assumed that's reflective of the overall level of interest in Mr M--since South Riding premieres here in the US this coming weekend, I assume there will be some spike in the number of visitors and perhaps even some new members.

Still, re: interest levels overall, though (which I think accounts for why this forum has always been relatively quiet from day one)... *smh* I mean, I know how awesome Mr M is, just like all of you, but sometimes it seems like the rest of the world hasn't quite figured this out yet...though he's got over 10,000 followers on Twitter now (another reason I'm always agog when he answers my tweets, given how many he's being flooded with 24/7), so that must be indicative of something, right?

Some time ago I actually tried to pimp this place at Mr M's Wikipedia entry, but it got taken down by some officious sod with no damned life for violating some arcane Wikipedia rule; when this forum was first created, there also were announcements at IMDb and Facebook but the latter seems to have been deleted and the former has been subsumed by subsequent posts (yeah, threads about such vital matters as Mr M's purported resemblance to Liam Neeson). *rolls eyes*

To me, the bottom line is this--if someone is interested, it's by no means difficult to find us. We're the number-one Google result for "David Morrissey fan forum," after all!

But in any case, rest assured--I don't think this board is any danger of ceasing to exist anytime soon, if ever. It's definitely not going to close down from lack of activity; heck, for a while there I was the only one posting anything whatsoever, and I think as long as Proboards are getting revenue from their ads, they're happy.

As well, I've been an admin at another forum for three years now, and have noticed how the frequency of members posting really tends to ebb and flow; I think it's just the nature of internet fandom--perhaps even fandom itself.

It's wonderful to see how much activity has been going on in my absence, though--good on ya, gals! (And hopefully at least a few of you are boys, too!)

I definitely am absolutely sick of this design and have been experimenting with options for a new masthead graphic (and then of course altering the skins to coordinate with it). Unfortunately, though, I'm not the "ultimate power" admin--that would still be Romana. RMR, are you still in contact with her? Because I'm not sure how to get ahold of her (and may have forgotten my staff password). *facepalm*

Y’know, in a way, I’m glad that DM isn’t incredibly well known and famous. It sort of makes him seem a lot more grounded and nicer… Which probably sounds weird but I dunno…

And now I can say that he’s Tweeted me too, OMG ;D I didn’t even see it until other people pointed it out to me, LOL! It was a nice surprise though, I really wasn’t expecting it

Anyway. I know as well as anyone how boards can die out. Pretty much all of the MBs I run have suffered that fate Although one of them has become slightly more active again after a few years of nothing, so… it all depends, really.

If you need any help with designs for the board I’d only be too happy to offer my services I’ve just been playing around with a few things at my other boards and I think some of what I’ve come up with has been pretty cool, so I could DM it up a bit and post it so you can see what you think
