I got to viewing the trailer on the net, and agree with the idea that their casting choices were pretty odd. While I didn't mind Russell Crowe too much (though he's still not a touch on Simm), Benny boy made me crack up continually. He's like a featherweight gravitas-wise (oooh, how I loathe using the word, but can't think of a better one ) compared to our beloved Mr. M. And that's not bias (I swear ), that's pure, hard fact. Just look at their acting back catalogues! kitty

Apropos of nothing except that it amuses me...kitty and I have been reading Story of O and have found that with regard to the character of Sir Stephen, we've both been automatically inferring a, "(Collins)" there. Also via Her Fabulous Kittyness, a hilarious bit of fanwanky goodness in this State of Play picspam@LJ that starts here. IMO, acidpenguin46 is a comedic genius of the highest order.

I got State of Play again from Netflix to show my mom, but once more she fell asleep (which is pretty much par for the course for her nowadays, and I certainly can't expect her to have my own preternatural levels of wakefulness where Mr. Morrissey's projects are concerned). This time round, with regard to that one scene where he's lying on the floor of his office...HOOHLORDY. *fans self* (Apologies for the lack of a decent screencap--my icon will have to suffice for now.) Not enough, "Guh," in the world, my friends. Not in the entire friggin' world. But I was later reminded of kitty's comment in the BI2 thread about the final scene in that movie--and Mr. Morrissey's astonishing capacity to convey so much on a wholly nonverbal level--in the part where Stephen Collins passes the notes to George Fergus in Parliament; just the extent of seething anguish he conveys without saying a single word is truly extraordinary. Though I neglected to mention earlier that if you're of a spoilerphobic persuasion, you should probably not do what I did in terms of listening to the commentaries before you've watched the whole thing; when I originally watched this, the second disc hadn't arrived from Netflix yet, and thus from certain remarks therein I was able to figure out the final plot twist well in advance...though if anything, it gave me even more appreciation for his performance, in all honesty. This has definitely been the case upon my second viewing, if not more so.

Aw, I'm in such a dilemma over choosing between Sense and Sensibility and State of Play to watch over the weekend (viewing both would make my head explode I think) Perhaps a crash helmet would be in order then? Though at least in my own case, it would seem there has yet to be created a sufficiently impenetrable suit of armor (and/or chastity belt, presumably) that would be adequately mitigate my own reaction, of course. (A reference from MST3K: The Undersea Kingdom, for those of you playing along at home.) While I don't have any more shots of that nature, another State of Play icon to hopefully tide you over in the meantime:

P.S. - Well there you go, just clocked up a century with this post *raises bat in the air* Allow me to congratulate you on this achievement, along with conveying my hopes this may slightly offset the massive national angst over recent events at Lord's. (Y'know, you've gotta let those Pommie bastards win once in a while--they're still trying to exact their revenge from the lethal one-two punch of Neighbours and Yahoo Serious in the Eighties, after all.)

Gee, I have no idea what you're talking about there. None at all...and certainly nothing that would have provoked me to make any icons, of course.

Ohhhhhh..... wow You're not kidding! I'm actually speechless Thank you for those I've been saving SoP as a treat to myself for when my thesis is finished (I felt too guilty to commit myself to a six-parter at this point - which is also why Cape Wrath is on hold for now). It's all taken longer than I thought but I am now this close to submitting, finally, so I will be a free woman from this time next week ;D And then it will be wall-to-wall DVD catch-up time ;D
