This is just me being blatantly shallow *stern look* All right, I'll allow for a one-time exception, but from now on it's back to the lofty tone of philosophical discourse that usually characterises our discussions herein, mmkay? I dunno, maybe if it was just subject to a bit of ye olde macrofication... Aw, sweetie, you didn't have to go to all that trouble--it's just a suggestion rather than any sort of icon-clad rule, honest. *smooch* And again, I must note...like you're gonna get any complaint about posting too many pics outta this crowd? i haz teh lolz at "the Last Supper," btw, and thoroughly approve of the rather-apropros Michelangelo theme you've had going of late.

I really love this series. I've always recommended it to my friends, but as their English is not so good...So at least one good thing comes with the us-remake: they published the German dubbed version on dvd and they will show it again on German TV from Fri, 30th Oct. John Simm mentioned in an interview when he was asked if he had seen the remake, now he has not and does not intend to. He also mentioned a call from David asking if he would be interested in watching it together. Isn't it just fantastic? I am going to see another brilliant actor from this series on stage: John Simm! ;D After the brilliant start with David in January and James McAvoy in March! Fingers crossed!

Ooh, so I'm guessing that you're going to see Speaking In Tongues, then? Apparently Ian Hart is in that too, so well done there, my dear. Even though this is not exactly the right forum--our fearless leader Romana's other site would be a bit more applicable--nonetheless, please feel free to come back here and tell us all about the play afterwards, k?

Thanks for the additional caps, Kitty I came across a pic of Messrs Morrissey and Simm off-duty at some kind of BBC Radio 1 event, so perhaps this thread is a suitable place to post it... .... and I also found an additional man-bonding pic to throw into the mix:

Thanks for the additional caps, Kitty No problemo Will hope to get onto Ep 3 sometime this week... That looks like a shot from them while at the Latitude festival, looking suitably casual Awesome pic! Thanks again for tracking that one down I just like the idea that he could pin Cal just with his index finger alone, LOL kitty

I just like the idea that he could pin Cal just with his index finger alone, LOL And I of course love the fact that no matter how you slice it, the subtext in that sentence comes up slashy.

Now for Part 2... Phone time LOL, having seen this experssion several times now, I think this can be called a 'tongue tic', akin to Mr. Tennant's tendency to touch his front teeth with his tongue while in thought ;D I hope it's obvious why I've called this one 'parked on the bench': Gloom, gloom, gloom, I know...but as I've said before, he does look kinda beautiful when he's sad Can't resist including a squinchy-faced pic for good measure But it's not all bad, ya see: This pic seems rather symbolic of the position Collins finds himself within his world, regardless of his own resistance to it--fundamentally trapped I won't go into the context of this pic, but, by God, it really is such an awkward moment between Stephen and Anne, and is a prelude to the next pic, which is an even more awkward moment Last but not least, this one's my favourite, cos it's not that often he looks impish, but crikey, when he does... kitty

Lawd have mercy, but how much screencappy win are you made of, hon? Well, quite a lot, as it happens. I tend to agree...only minus the modifier. He's drinking to forget their brief but bitter affair, of course. But then again, Mr. Simm's rather wistful expression in that one shot got me to thinking... I have just sprayed garlic bread pizza all over the keyboard as a result of that picture. Oh, bless you for passing that along, pooks.

I tend to agree...only minus the modifier. You're right...I've really got to stop with the 'modifying' of my comments LOL!! They just weren't meant to be, I suppose LOL, no probs kitty

Having finally watched State of Play I can now freely peruse this thread, read the discussions and wallow in all the pictorial goodness without fear of spoilers Kitty, thank you for the amazing caps! I loved SoP and it’s tempting to dissect the whole six hours laboriously in my usual manner, but wary of the dangers of spoilering I’ll keep it to a few general comments… Loved the performances – especially Messrs Morrissey and Simm of course but also the stellar supporting cast. Bill Nighy was brilliant (and the comic relief was very welcome) and I also particularly enjoyed the impish smugness of James McAvoy’s character - which left me unsure whether to be charmed or want to give him a slap - and the minor roles (like Tom Burke as Syd for example). I’ve already tweeted to Kitty and Lilly how much I loved this scene (I loved plenty of other Cal/Stephen scenes too but this one happens to be on YouTube) – nothing like watching two superb actors at the very top of their game facing off in a small space, and if there was a way of harnessing the testosterone in the room you could power a small town. As I also said I’m not always the first to buy into homoerotic subtext, but in this case the chemistry between the two really is extraordinary. I won’t list everything (I could, but I suspect it’s unnecessary as I’m largely preaching to the converted here ) but for example the little scene in ep.5 (I think) where Stephen is staying at Cal’s flat and goes into the room where Cal is to recharge his phone – maybe this is just me, but there’s a sexual tension you could cut with a knife. I know it’s meant to be awkward because of the nature of the phone call Cal’s making when Stephen comes in, but just the way the two of them are around each other – the slight self-consciousness (which is quite odd given they’re old friends) and the sense of a mutual awareness of the other’s physical presence (if that makes sense – you know, that strange hyper consciousness you get when you’re physically close to someone you’re really attracted to); basically I kinda wanted Stephen to just throw Cal up against the wall and snog his face off. … via Her Fabulous Kittyness, a hilarious bit of fanwanky goodness in this State of Play picspam@LJ that starts here. IMO, acidpenguin46 is a comedic genius of the highest order. Agreed – I loved it too and she absolutely nails the slashy goodness of those early scenes (like the way Cal lights up when Stephen finally returns his call). I got the impression from acidpenguin46’s comments that she might have be a further SoP picspam somewhere, but not knowing my way around LJ I couldn’t find it. Can anyone help? Hand Porn + London Porn = WIN. Ohh yes – and he just generally looked so beautiful in that little scene (Kitty, perhaps when you come to cap that episode…? ) ...this one just cracks me up EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. *sporfles* That's hilarious ;D Gloom, gloom, gloom, I know... Yes - he's truly the King of Misery in this one God yes. The picture says it all I'm especially glad you took a cap of that bit as this is the point at which I pretty much melted into goo. And then of course as the drama unfolds, and his anguish ratchets upwards, so do the levels of angsty, teary beauty - and by the end they’re well nigh off the chart Wow, yes Finally, this pic doesn’t measure up to any of those lovely caps, but I throw it in just for the hell of it. (Doesn't Mr Simm look wee here?)

He's drinking to forget their brief but bitter affair, of course. LOL at the macro ;D As I say, I knew I was preaching to the converted when it came to the hoyay Edit: Thinking of which, here is a rather fabulous Cal/Stephen video, made by tigrrussia, which I've found myself slightly compulsively watching the last day or so. NB: not explicitly spoilerish, but still best watched only when you've seen the series.

Loved the performances – especially Messrs Morrissey and Simm of course but also the stellar supporting cast. Bill Nighy was brilliant (and the comic relief was very welcome) As I already tweeted you about my omnipresent thought during He Knew He Was Right (when I wasn't laughing at how phenomenally unattractive they somehow managed to make David Tennant look, that is), Bill Nighy really needs to stop being so awesome, RIGHT THIS MINUTE. Though I already shared this with you, I'll make a point via repetition... Apologies if I'm repeating myself--I can't remember if I mentioned this here or somewhere else, but in recently watching Cranford (which I absolutely adored from beginning to end), it was great to see Deborah Findlay in a role where I wasn't constantly thinking, "Dammit, bitch, what I wouldn't give for your job!" And of course that line she has about, "He cooked it, I'm just stirring" is one of the all-time greats. No one else especially notable in the supporting cast, of course. Of course it isn't. I'd say that the multitudes of State of Play slashfic would indicate you've got plenty of company in that line of thought, plus you know that as always, das kitster and I have your backup on d as well. Have I mentioned lately that I love the way you think? I LOVE THE WAY YOU THINK.Well, were you looking for the rest of the SoP synopsis-picspam, or...? Especially odd given that cos he usually plays such a effervescent, joyful soul, huh? Quoted for truth in addition to wonderfully evocative lyricism. I don't know if you've listened to the DVD commentary yet (as previously mentioned, that's how I got spoilered up, but I honestly didn't mind), but it was amusingly noted therein that he apparently complained about having so many scenes with guys like Mr. Morrissey and Johann Myers who made him look even shorter in consequence. (One can only hope someone cited to him the popular truism re: small packages.)

I'll need to properly respond to stuff once I've stepped off from the fuzzified planet of DT, but here's a start... I got the impression from acidpenguin46’s comments that she might have be a further SoP picspam somewhere, but not knowing my way around LJ I couldn’t find it. Can anyone help? I hope this link helps Duly noted Awww...I endeavour to be a stickler for detail wrt Stephen Oh, it has its place! And ta...aw, Simm looks dopey cute, and at 5' 9" compared to Morrissey's 6' 3", it's not all that surprising he looks rather wee ;D BTW, I'll swap you that image for this gif, which I kitty
