Thanks for posting that vid...and getting this thread back on topic again *laments tangental nature of interactions with Lilly* I noticed in the vid, along with the squinchy-face making yet another appearance, that he does a tonguey-thing too. Not sure if it's a pensive/steeling concentration-type expression, but I'm pretty sure it's there kitty

Possibly slightly spoilerific if you haven't seen Blackpool, though. *casts mournful eye at non-region-specific DVD kitty sent me that I nonetheless can't watch* It's okay, though; I'm not terribly spoilerphobic to begin with, and I already know how it ends. No worries. Thanks for posting that vid...and getting this thread back on topic again *laments tangental nature of interactions with Lilly* OI!!!! So that's how it is, huh? I'm unable to get here for a few days and thus it becomes open season on your humble admin, eh? IMO, staying on-topic is HUGELY overrated.

Yes, when Ripley's trying to steel himself and get himself back under control, poor love. Visually similar to other tongue incidents but resemblance probably purely coincidental Meanwhile I've bought a copy of the DVD for a friend of mine who's just been to Blackpool on a camping trip, on the basis that she needs to see it whether she wants to or not. She's usually resistant to David Tennant but he might just win her over in this one

Tonight after Thanksgiving dinner (btw, if you're reading this, I'm grateful for you--yes, even you shy lil' lurkers who are here all the time but never register or post *waves hullo*), I couldn't resist hopping on my sister's PC for a little while because unlike my cranky old iMac, it actually plays stuph on YouTube correctly, so I showed my niece a few Blackpool clips as an attempt to illustrate the origins of my abject psychosis in the past year. My niece remembered David Tennant from watching Doctor Who with me on Christmas last year--she's the one that was entirely too impressed with his dimples--but after "These Boots" she exclaimed, "Ohmigod, they're both so cute--I could never decide!" At this I could only grin and say, "Here in the best of all possible fangirly worlds, no decision is really necessary." (And then thought to myself, "Your heart and nads tend to make up your mind for you in due course anyway.")

Not sure if it's a pensive/steeling concentration-type expression, but I'm pretty sure it's there On reflection I see what you mean about the tongue thing. I hadn't much noticed before but now you point it out I've spotted variations turning up in other things I've seen recently too - Framed for example My niece... exclaimed, "Ohmigod, they're both so cute--I could never decide!" I think your niece may just have nailed the essential dilemma, and the essential appeal, of Blackpool Ohhh, they surely do *as if by way of demonstration notches up 200th post *

Many thanks to celia for sending me a prodigious extent of screencappy goodness (indeed, as did kitty before her); while I haven't even begun to get truly started on processing/posting the now-vast array now at my disposal, one has to start somewhere, after all... (Am now mumbling under my breath, "This is not gratuitous...THIS IS NOT GRATUITOUS...nope, nuthin but the highest of highfalutin intellectual discourse here at the DMF2...")

Just thought I'd post this Blackpool cast and crew vid that's seemingly popped out of the sky (via the DT comm on LJ). Tis quite hilarious In just a little aside, I found out that I had a reply via my mobile to a certain Blackpool video I uploaded to YouTube while waiting at the airport for my flight back to Melbourne last night, which was delayed due to some psycho weather The friend I was with wanted to know what I was giggling at, so I showed her the vids of "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me", "These Boots Are Made For Walking" and "Should I Stay or Should I Go". She totally cracked up at the first vid, and had acknowledged the slashy context in the second vid, even though she'd never seen the show before and wouldn't know the actors in it from a bar of soap. I'm calling that a fangirly WIN kitty

Aw, thanks for the vid Kitty - it looks as though they had such a laugh A thought crossed my mind ages ago that I meant to throw in on this thread and never got around to. Forgive me if I'm about to state the bleedin' obvious, but do you think the choice of the name Ripley Holden for Mr M's character is a little literary joke? Given that Ripley is a man who reinvents himself to escape from his unhappy past, it surely can't be coincidence that the new name he adopts is a combination of [Tom] Ripley (as in The Talented Mr Ripley), who takes on another person's identity, and Holden [Caulfield], the quintessential troubled teen? I can't see Ripley being a man for literary allusions but Peter Bowker certainly might be. What do you think? Meanwhile I stumbled upon a page for the BBC website's drama awards for 2004, and find that Mr Morrissey was second in the viewers' poll for Best Actor (runner-up to Richard Armitage in North and South, who pretty much swept the board): glowing comments are here. Ripley was also voted fourth in the Best Villain category. (I like to think that if they'd had a Best Hero category he'd have been in with a shout there too )

Thanks to the extraordinarily fantastic kindness of celia, I have just finished watching Blackpool in its entirety for the first time. As I tweeted her when I was about midway through it, "Words. Fail." (Though I then confessed to her that I'd just gotten back from the gym, where I'd had a protracted daydream on the stairmaster about Ripley showing up to collect my rent.) And thus if you have a spare six hours--it's taken me several days to find the time to sit down and watch it all (six hours damn well spent, I can assure you!)--the sooper-seekrit link starts here. Since Celia told me that there was a previous upload on YouTube cleverly titled, "White Snooker" which was removed after the BBC got wind of it, let's keep this on the DL, shall we? I've hesitated in posting the link here, but hopefully our constituency here is both small and surreptitiously-minded enough not to post about it on a BBC website, as apparently was the case with why "White Snooker" got taken down. But if you're not in the U.K. (and hence with presumable access to the DVD), can't do the YouTube thing or just would prefer to watch the entire programme uninterrupted and unedited (that YouTube version does have missing audio on some of the songs owing to copyright reasons, so be warned), I've noticed there have been an increasing amount of region 1 versions available in recent eBay auctions, which I'm hoping may mean that it might finally get released on this side of the pond at long last. I don't think I really have much of a coherent response at this point--none may be forthcoming in the future, for that matter--except for the omnipresent thought I kept having throughout the entire six hours: "Jeez, he's SO good at this." I mean, nobody but nobody does manpain better, but sheesh, I really hope we get to see more utilisation of Mr. Morrissey's natural comedic flair in his future roles, because the glimpses we've had in Blackpool and Born Romantic (along with a few bits in Is Anybody There?) aren't nearly enough, IMO. And of course, I cannot begin to state how strongly I approve of this many scenes of sex and general disrobing, btw.

I had a Blackpool marathon yesterday. Ripley Holden- what a character, what a performance. DM blew me away with his range. Ripley is so many things, most of them vile and sometimes downright scary. He almost overpowers the screen at times with the force of his personality. The musical numbers came alive when he was in them. The triangle is no dilema at all for me. Ripley all the way. The question is why he wanted Natalie. I thougt she was a weak, unprincipled slag! I'm fed up with female characters having their adultery excused because their husband neglects/misunderstands them. Speak up or get a bleeding divorce! After the way Natalie yanked Carlisle around emotionally, I wanted both men to toss her out on the street! I wasn't convinced of Carlisle and Natalie's "grand romance", despite the times they and Ripley said they needed each other. Natalie and Ripley's relationship felt more real and deep and sensual. The red dress scene and the scene when she turns him down in bed(?!) were the sexiest moments in the series. Sarah Parish did her best acting opposite DM. Everybody did their best acting in this series opposite DM. They couldn't help it.

I wanted to post this link here not only because there are a lot of DMF2'ers who like David Tennant as well (and those of you who don't--have you not eyes in your head?), but specifically because there's a Blackpool download available, as well as one for The Next Doctor.Hopefully it's the original British version, like the previously-cited YouTube link, not the edited US version. *grrrr* Still not totally okay with torrents, but just putting this out there...especially since this may be my only chance to see Single Father (though after his mega-emo final season on Doctor Who, I've had about all I can take of DT doing manpain--besides, Mr M does it better!) and Recovery (which I freely admit wanting to watch solely for the nekkid bum shots). Jeez, though, if I'm watching things online, I should really finish Meadowlands sometime, huh?
