I'll start a seperate thread for Viva Blackpool Well...what can I say? I just love this show and that's just from watching the first episode! The boxset of this and Viva Blackpool was one of my Christmas presents from my sister and I watched episode 1 just there. When it was on TV originally I didn't pay proper attention to it - God knows why - but I'm making up for that now with the DVDs Ripley is a great character - severely flawed, but great. And David is really sexy in the role. (Plus David Tennant is in this too, he's great as well and this was the first show I saw both of them in)

I've had "You Can Get It If You Really Want" stuck in my head, ever since Sunday - lol, I was at the supermarket today and imagined everyone bursting into song and dance, would've really brightened things up All you'd need would be the cast of Blackpool mixed in

Yeah, I don't think naughty thoughts either *Tries to look all innocent and fails* Can't forget the classic scene of that episode "These Boots Are Made For Walking" - hilarious!

I keep singing 'You can get it it' too and 'The Gambler'... Love them so much!
Favourite is 'Should I Stay or Should I Go' witht he two David's in the pool - thud!
I really liked Ripley's character - not as a husband type (he was a git to Natalie) but he was still really cool. *hides*. I ADORE Blackpool - I thought I'd hate it (I didn't used to be much of a fan of musicals - I'm still not generally speaking but they're growing on me I have to admit) but it had me straight away. David (both really but DM for this statement!) is absolutely stunning and had so much presence. Natalie Holden was one lucky woman!!! :-)

Ah, Blackpool...possibly what I have to thank (curse?) getting me to this place, or more specifically, my friend who posted the, "These Boots Are Made For Walking" clip to her LiveJournal a few months ago. I was all, "Hoohlordy, is it hot in here, or is it all that luscious gooey homoerotic subtext? I am sooo looking forward to 'The Next Doctor' now!" Alas, I've only been able to watch clips at YouTube thus far; although Netflix let me save it to my queue, they still have no ETA as to when it will become available Stateside. Evidently there are complete episodes up on YouTube, but they don't play worth a damn on my iMac, so I have had to remind myself about the pleasures of delayed gratification there. (Not to mention that given Mr. Morrissey's wonderfully extensive C.V., I've got plenty of other stuph to watch in the meantime anyway.) I've always disliked "The Gambler," but that clip has done much to endear that song to me immensely, and as already mentioned elsewhere, though I've never especially liked "Cupid" either, I found myself singing it to my baby kitty the other week. Never in my entire friggin' life have I more wanted to reach into the computer screen and rip off a towel, though.

I only got to revisiting Blackpool (the whole show in one slab) a couple of days ago for the fourth time (with Morrissey rather than Tennant-tinted glasses this time round), but superlatives can't adequately describe how much of a delight this half dozenish hours of TV are. Love how all the characters are so well-drawn and real and human, which helps when everyone's brilliant in it (such a rarity on TV and film!). It just grows more and more sublime with each subsequent viewing ;D Highlights: -Seeing DM in either a) perpetual state of toplessness or b) awe-worthy gangster-chic suits. One of the select few who can make chops (read 'meaty' sideburns) look remotely desirable. -A love triangle that has real tension where you actually find yourself cheering for all parties and wanting everyone to be happy despite their foibles and mistakes. I keep putting myself in Natalie's shoes at the end and still find myself unsure as to who I'd go with (though she doesn't have a choice really, I know ) -The hilariously awesome song-and dance sequences (some which have already been mentioned) including: 'These Boots Are Made for Walking' - where I first became aware of homoerotic tangoing 'Should I Stay or Should I Go' - especially the bit where Carlisle goes through Natalie's undies drawer and Carlisle vs Ripley in pool (was waiting for them to engage in either b****-slapping or brawling at one point ) 'The Boy with the Thorn in his Side' - cute little dancing coppers, bless! 'I'm Gonna Make You Love Me' - The Stare and Wink and Ripley encircled by bright yellow men in sunshiny 50's musical style 'Always Something There to Remind Me' - the perfect ending to a perfect show *two thumbs up* kitty

I only got to revisiting Blackpool (the whole show in one slab) a couple of days ago for the fourth time (with Morrissey rather than Tennant-tinted glasses this time round) That's an amazingly evocative way of putting it--though now having read a bit more of your writing, I'm not surprised you described it so well, m'dear--and precisely the same thing I've experienced as well. As I said, I've only seen the stuph on YouTube, and not all of that, but when I originally watched those clips I was indeed primarily looking at Mr. Tennant, and now it's like, "I'm sorry, is anyone other than Mr. Morrissey in this?" Though I am now unable to think of them in terms other than Lil' Davey and Big Davey, which led to the creation of the following icon: Yeah, but quite honestly, at this point I'm thinking he could probably play a 400-lb. skinhead and I'd still find him insanely bonkable, ya know? *HEAD DESK* I just rewatched that the other day, along with... ...and once again found myself thinking, "Will you two please snog each other before I have a friggin' stroke?!" Lil' Davey bustin' a move kills me every single time...though re: the Smiths, as I tweeted my friend about a month ago, "So much for thinking Steven Patrick was the only one who could ever have my heart..." Aw crapola, I don't know if I've seen those or not. *zooms off to YouTube, particularly since this will nicely enable her to avoid doing any Google image searches*

Cheers It's been a few years since I've had an obsessive fangirly crush (which was my Tennant one - he's like my fangirly 'boyfriend' of sorts, always lingering in the background), so I'm kinda finding myself being able to step back from this DM 'thang' and apply just a little bit of critical thought to it that I didn't have before. It's a shame I can't just email the whole of Blackpool in mp4 to you, cos you are sooo missing out in not being able to see it in full. Almost every bit of dialogue is wonderfully quotable gold...a lot of it from Ripley. In fact I felt that the Morrissey-tinted view redressed the imbalance I'd been having watching it from the Tennant perspective, as Ripley's character is the focus of the show, after all. LOL! For some odd reason that icon immediately gets me thinking the Incredible Hulk ("Me Hulk! Me smash!") ;D Oui-Oui to that I actually had a similar thought with Ed Norton after watching American History X, a while back when I had a fangirly thing for him. Quite like Norton, I just love the fact that The Morrissey's not afraid to ashew vanity and look 'ugly' in order to convince you of the characters he plays, and is really adept at being Mr Invisible and disappearing into his roles. Unlike, for instance, watching Hugh Jackman and Ewan McGregor in Deception last night...just couldn't detatch those actors from said characters Yeah, I forgot about idea for a moment ...really fits in where they grapple with each other. I don't think those bits are in youtube, but might look to address that if you so wish kitty

Cheers It's been a few years since I've had an obsessive fangirly crush I categorically refuse to consider the possibility that's what this is. I simply blame the damn incubus for taking over my brain and, uhm, other parts of me. *shakes fist* I must confess that when on the phone with a fellow oldskool-Who fan a few months ago, after she said something dismissive about Ten, I shouted, "But he's so f@#$ing adorable--WHAT ARE YOU, A ROBOT?! GET AWAY FROM ME, CYBORG!!" (At this she giggled and agreed there might some truth to this assertion.) Any time you'd care to share how that whole little 'critical thought' process works, I'd be much obliged, hon... *massive eyeroll at self* Well, as I think I said@LJ, yesterday I got the BBC Worldwide clips@YouTube to play without any difficulty for the first time, so I'm not sure if that's attributable to the phase of the moon, having flushed my browser cache or simply the Gods Of Hormonal Torment having decided to smile upon and/or smite me with a mighty blow there. Hulk...hunk...same diff, really. Okay, this is incredibly tangential--yes, even for me--but the other day I saw a bunch of icons from the latest Incredible Hulk movie (there are no coincidences here, evidently) and was appalled to see Tim Roth with a six-pack, which struck me as just so wrong on so many levels...cos he's a truly great actor, and even though I'm still enough of a raging feminazi to momentarily think, "Heh, boys, welcome to Girly World, where your value is completely based on how you look," I can't honestly be happy about such ridiculous standards being applied to men as well as women. Gets on my sodding wick, that. I could go off on a big ole dialectical analysis here about actors' psyches, and what compels them to pursue a career that is so largely comprised of subsuming their own personalities into a fictional character's, but, erm, I won't. Really. As my dad always says, you're a gentleman and a fine judge of whiskey. "Always Something There To Remind Me" is indeed there, but t'other isn't. So ya know, if you haven't got anything better to do sometime... *makes big Bambi eyes at you*

GET AWAY FROM ME, CYBORG!!" (At this she giggled and agreed there might some truth to this assertion.) You might be surprised to hear this but... I'm not overly enamoured with Doc Ten-Tennant's persona, at least not like I once was. It started as kinda cute, but I've just gotten a bit bored with it as time's gone on. There is a part of me that can't wait for him to finish up with Who so he can go on and do different stuff like The Morrissey *proceeds to go and wash mouth out with soap* Check out LJ...there's a little there It's a start, but, by God, you have to see the whole thing...the context, the snappy one-liners every few minutes that continually crack you up! It's kinda like seeing that proposal scene in Our Mutual Friend on Youtube. I felt really, really sorry for him, up until I got to seeing in the full version what he actually did to Lizzie afterwards. Then I thought...you're totally fudged up, man...just fudged That's why you need to see the whole six-hours of wonderfullness...that way you get the entire picture *Curses self for being so technologically illiterate* I thought the same when I read a DM snippet re BI2 where he mentioned CGI being applied to his posterior (sorry to spoil the magic, but the guy admitted it himself!) ;D In all seriousness I'd agree, though I've been of the view that this isn't a new phenomenon by any stretch, judging by the general homogenous aesthetic of current popular actors today. Though I'm the kind who adores old-school actors like Cary Grant, Tony Curtis, Steve McQueen and Alain Delon, so it's probably more suggestive of my personal taste than anything else. You could...self-loathing is certainly a major part of it. But if you peel away the posturing and fanciful artsiness of it all, acting, in essence, is an adult version of playing dress-ups. Really Done (In case you don't catch the link on LJ) kitty

There is a part of me that can't wait for him to finish up with Who so he can go on and do different stuff like The Morrissey *proceeds to go and wash mouth out with soap* No soap needed, as I can totally see why his Manic Angst Boy routine gets on some people's nerves. He'll never be my favourite Doctor, cos that contract was signed, sealed and delivered in excelsis just over two decades ago, but Mr. Tennant's boundless, effervescent charm has much to do with why he's in a three-way tie for my second-favourite Doctor. [/pathetic internet geekgirling] Whereas with all the Wrayburn-stalking, I couldn't help thinking, "C'mon, boys, something else is going on here and you both know it..." Aw, it's okay, hon. Again, Netflix will have it sometime, and meanwhile I have lovely friends like you who upload stuph for me. No worries, mate. OMGWTFBBQ?! What the hell is that about? Because after I summoned up sufficient moral decrepitude to do the Google image search routine yesterday--finding any number of selections from various movies therein--I could only sigh afterwards, "That is one seriously rockin' tushie ya got there, buster." Totally hear ya on that one. Most of what's considered conventionally good-looking fills me with vast amounts of meh (though I've got a bit of a thing for Argentinian novela star Sebástian Rulli, it's partly because he really is an amazing actor, it's just that usually gets disregarded in the floods of All That Pretteh--not unlike Josh Holloway on Lost, for that matter. Like the flair for rationalisation there? Thanks, like to think I've honed it to quite the fine polish...) WORD. As well, that might relate to a discussion we've had at the DW-related forum I admin about why so many British actors--Mr. Morrissey thankfully does not seem to be among them--who seem utterly incapable of dressing themselves like adults; I've wondered how much it has to do with the English love of eccentricity versus how much stems from monumental insecurity and the need for attention. (C'mon, I'm sure you've seen some of the outfits Mr. Tennant gads about in--at this point I'm convinced he doesn't actually pick that stuph out himself, but rather has some fabulous gay friends with seriously twisted senses of humour who are quietly taking their revenge on him for being straight.) If I might be so bold as to speak on behalf of the DMF2'ers in general, you totally rock.

Whereas with all the Wrayburn-stalking, I couldn't help thinking, "C'mon, boys, something else is going on here and you both know it..." You can add Framed (Eddie/Timothy Dalton) to that list of subtexty slashiness (aside from Tennant and Simm of course). What's really odd is that I don't personally see DM as the type who'd appear in Queer As Folk I know...while I'm not a tush-fixated kinda gal, it seems just fine and dandy to me BTW while you were Google Imaging, did you make any running comparisons between said posterior in BI2 and the others? Furthermore, could you discern any significant differences? BTW this is the source of that comment, in case you doubt its validity. Sebástian Rulli...WOW! *fans self* In terms of 'All That Pretteh' I just have to rock up to an aussie rules match...fit bods, oh-so-tight shorts, can't really beat it. There's also Brandon Lee (RIP) and Guy Pearce, in terms of less-typically good looking. Yes, mercifully, DM is too mature to fall for the whole 'metrosexual' Queer-Eye-for-the-Straight-Guy-inspired foppish trend. Is all class *two thumbs up* Though what I at least like about Brit actors (pre getting to Hollywood) is that they're not controlled to within an inch of their lives dress-wise by stylists (yet), so at least you've got something there to tangibly draw conclusons from, rather than nada. Mebbe...nah...I actually think he's a modern-day fop. Tis all part of the Tennanty-charm So do you! But cheers. I tries my darndest
