Quick Quiz radio interview--I dare y'all not to be chock fulla awww (with a few helpless giggles thrown in) at the response to the last question. Aw, thanks for posting that As well as the last question, I enjoyed his choosing Homer Simpson over Tony Blair because 'he makes me laugh in a good way'

But he clearly needs to travel more--bike riding across the countryside is a cool thing to do IMO...at least here it is Despite how much fun I've been having at the gym lately, I'm with Mr. M. on this one--given my druthers, more sedentary pursuits would be my choice every time too. And although I know you two already know about this, in case anyone else is interested (I'm looking straight at you, shy lurkers), and thanks to a kind heads-up from the man himself--along with muchos kudos to kitty for finding this specific link--yesterday's Simon Mayo interview here. (Okay, did I miss something, or exactly what questions were libellous therein?) Still, I definitely appreciated the insights into Liverpool accents past and present; one of my best friends in Swansea was from Warrington and she had one of those total Beatle-y accents--which I would imitate until she responded by doing her version of my horrific flat Cali vowels--so the first time I heard Mr. Morrissey speak using his actual accent instead of RP, I was more than slightly confused...though of course the idea that there's only one sort of Liverpool accent is patently ridiculous anyway. We've already covered Let The Right One In herein, but some other relevant IMDb listings: The Return, along with the cited Terence Davies films Of Time and the City, and Distant Voices, Still Lives. (It's probably really obvious that doing research was one of my favourite parts of being at university, isn't it?)

Thanks for that - I've been catching up with it this afternoon. I enjoyed his description of Christmas chez Morrissey at the end - his quiet deadpan humour never fails to make me laugh ;D Methinks he was just being a tease Thanks for the links I've never seen any Terence Davies films and this interview has reminded me that I really, really should...

So how would you answer that question, btw? I don't tend to watch thrillers--my fave movies tend to be musicals, comedies, or pretentious art house films I'm much the same, and besides I've never thought of separating out my favourite thrillers from my favourite movies of any other type. Still, if I had to choose then apart from the ones I mentioned earlier (especially The Third Man, which I rewatched on New Year's Eve after my Mum and Dad gave me it on DVD for Christmas - a fabulous movie) I'd probably want to throw in a bit of Hitchcock, especially the early British pre-war films. The 39 Steps and The Lady Vanishes are particular favourites As I mentioned at Twitter one of my other Christmas presents (from my brother this time) was The Conversation - so I expect I'll be reporting back on that in due course

I came across an article in a December issue of the Guardian magazine with celebrities talking about their worst ever Christmas presents, featuring this little nugget I'm not sure if the reference to Noel Edmonds (British gameshow host) will have any meaning outside the UK, but if not then some visual evidence might be useful...

LOL at that Guardian snippet!! I wonder who happened to be the offending party? It's a shame he didn't quite have the gall to fess up Wasn't sure where to put this, but I got this link via Live Journal about a Q&A session in Belfast. Apparently there'll be more of these Q&As to come, according to the man himself kitty

It's a shame he didn't quite have the gall to fess up Well, it's probably just as well he didn't name names, then no-one can be sure theirs was the shirt in question. I had to feel sorry for the person who went to the trouble of giving Stephen Fry a Windows phone only to have it dismissed (in the same article) as 'shite' Thanks for the link I think some of these talks/Q&As accompany screenings of DWAM, so I might try and gather the others and post 'em over in that thread. I'm still toying with whether to try and book for one of the Q&As - maybe the date in Bristol. Not that I necessarily feel the need to see DWAM three times over, but the opportunity of another glimpse of Mr M in the flesh is hard to resist Still on media links, I thought I'd also throw in this piece by Mark Kermode from today's Observer, in which he casts an imaginary film of his life story and gives the role of Noddy Holder to Mr Morrissey I like Mr Kermode anyway, but here he earns additional Brownie points for his admiration of another favourite actor of mine, the always excellent Jason Isaacs (another Scouser, incidentally)

I'm not sure if the reference to Noel Edmonds (British gameshow host) will have any meaning outside the UK, but if not then some visual evidence might be useful... I'm lucky enough to have spent enough time there that I burst into laughter immediately at the reference (not sure I could come up with a US equivalent, actually). I've watched a few old TOTP clips on YouTube lately and noticed that the ugly shirts thing goes way back with him, doesn't it? Well, it's probably just as well he didn't name names, then no-one can be sure theirs was the shirt in question. Yeah, actually I admire his tact there. I tend to hedge my bets in a similar fashion. LOL!! If someone doesn't know Mr. Fry well enough to understand his partiality in that regard--weren't he and Douglas Adams the first two Macintosh owners in the UK?--then oh dear...well, forewarned is forearmed, etc. As your humble admin and benevolent despot herein, I command that you go to at least one of them, on behalf of all of us who are unable to do so. Please-oh-please?! *big sad Bambi eyes* LMFAO at the GMTA, cos my first thought was, "Well, we know he can grow the sideburns..." Awesome article--thanks so much for passing it along! I gotta quibble with his citation of Mary Poppins though, because frankly, the horror and the outrage that is Dick Van Dyke's accent prevents me from even tolerating that film; even the normally-fearsome fabulosity of Julie Andrews is not enough to overcome the abomination known as Mr. Van Dyke's faux-Cockney patois, at least for me; IMO, it is an offence to all that is good and holy on this earth, only forever enshrined on celluloid. (Though evidently it's not as offensive to actual English people...go figger.) Okay, WHAT THE HELL IS WITH THE WATER IN LIVERPOOL??!!

Radio Times covers party photo and referring article. The weight comment--apart from further substantiating the IMO-deeply-unfair (and remarkably shallow) obsession with skeletal thinness in the entertainment industry--reminded me of how I thought with the abseiling photos from months ago that Mr. Morrissey looked worryingly thin then. On the other hand, here at Obvious Observations 'R' Us, it's once more difficult to refrain from noting that damn, but the fella sure cleans up nice, huh?

Generous soul that she is, our celia_j has passed along some bits o' photographic linky goodness here and here.Thassa handsome man right there, eminently deserving of the "Northern hunk" appellation bestowed here (at which I laughed heartily while nonetheless being in wholehearted agreement, of course).

Maybe it's just me, but narky shallowness aside re that remark, I'm not noticing anything remarkably different from these photos. Nothing like the tabloid propensity to make mountains out of molehills Being purely superficially academic for a second, I'm wondering whether he might've put on weight for his role in Mrs. Mandela and had just dropped the excess. Not that I'd be concerned either way, cos he still scrubs up perfectly fine And cheers for the links and pics guys - it's a nice counterbalance to the Tennant-centric stuff I've been getting with reference to this party kitty

Oops, forgot to post this photo link from the South Bank Show Awards I got via the Brit Actors LJ comm. The corresponding pic of John Simm (and when you see the pic in question, you'll see what I mean by corresponding) is good for a wee laugh ;D You have to register (albeit for free) if you want to see the images in a larger size though, which is a pain in the proverbial butt kitty

Is he writing something?"--but eventually I got it--cute! Stripey scarves--it's what the cool kids are wearing this season. (And every season, really.) Worryingly, I apparently am already registered there.

Stripey scarves--it's what the cool kids are wearing this season. (And every season, really.) Evidently...and yes, it is pretty damn cute. I mustn't be one of the cool kids, cos I don't do stripey scarves Being as visually-oriented as you are, I can't really say that's much of a surprise! *mental notes for future pic access* kitty

Evidently...and yes, it is pretty damn cute. I mustn't be one of the cool kids, cos I don't do stripey scarves Yes, but you are already so cute that your coolness quotient is sufficiently stratospheric enough to require no stripey scarves whatsoever. Thank you, m'dear, for saying, "visually-oriented," instead of other terms that might have also seemed applicable...such as, say, "hopelessly hormonally deranged." And related to that, the original reason I came by here to post: I'm not at all sure what I think of the, "snarling, rugby player-type mega-hunks" assertion, but hey, there are worse things in life than being deemed the beefcakey apotheosis of über-masculinity, eh?
